* DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
We have provided this calculator to both educate and assist the public.  Because the calculation of alimony can be difficult and fact-specific we suggest that you consult with an attorney when using this calculator.  Whether you are a lay person or an attorney, please do not hesitate to call Attorney Justin Kelsey at (508) 655-5980 to discuss the correct use of the calculator.  The Divorce Spousal Support Calculator is also available at AlimonyFormula.com.

When using the calculator please keep in mind the following:
  • The formulas presented below assume no child support and insufficient assets for an alimony buy-out.
  • These formulas are provided as guidelines and should not be substituted for critical analysis of the facts of each individual case by qualified counsel.
  • There is not currently any formula enacted or endorsed by the Massachusetts Legislature.
  • The amount of alimony is dependent on the consideration of many factors (as described in M.G.L. c. 208 Section 34).
  • Nevertheless, these formulas have proven to be a valuable resource in helping parties understand a reasonable potential range of spousal support orders.
  • The sources for each formula are referenced in the accompanying article which can be accessed at http://www.kelseytrask.com/Docs/SpousalSupport.pdf or by clicking below.

1 Net annual income is used for the California and Pennsylvania formulas and the definition varies by jurisdiction. For the purposes of consistency, we suggest using Gross Income less state and federal taxes, FICA, Medicare, Medical Insurance and Union Dues.
To convert annual or monthly amounts to weekly ones, or vice versa, simply type the amount to be converted in the appropriate box below, press TAB, then type the result in the applicable field in the table. Amounts in Table and in Worksheet are rounded off to the nearest dollar.
